Monini Extra Virgin
Olive Oil Sponsors Events and Feeds Athletes
In
August, Monini Extra Virgin Olive Oil
will be sponsoring the 2003
New York City Cycling Classic and the
2003 Pilot Pen Tennis tournament.
The health benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
are underscored by Monini’s sponsorship
of two leading area athletic events.
Pilot Pen Participation
Monini
Extra Virgin Olive Oil will be among the sponsors
of the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament, returning
to New Haven, CT this August. This internationally
recognized tournament is played at the Connecticut
Tennis Center at Yale University and is the
preceding WTA tournament to the US Open. It
has been one of the major stops on the worldwide
WTA tour since 1988. Past champions include
Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Navratilova,
Lindsay Davenport, and Venus Williams. The tournament
begins August 15 with a qualifying draw including
50 athletes and ends on August 23. Monini’s
six foot olive mascot, Oliver, will be present
for Kid’s Day on August 17 as well as
during the final days of the event.
By special arrangement, Monini Extra Virgin
Olive Oil also will be served to the participating
athletes during the weeklong tournament. Studies
have shown that extra virgin olive oil contributes
to a healthy digestive system, is excellent
for brain activity and bone mineralization,
and reduces the rate of cardiovascular illness
by lowering cholesterol levels. Monini
is the leading extra virgin olive oil in Italy.
In 1995, the Journal of National Cancer Institute
reported that olive oil offers strong protection
in the fight against breast cancer.
“It’s the prefect partnership
to have Monini sponsor these events,”
remarked Marco Petrini, president of Monini
North America. “To be healthy
you need to eat well and exercise. Monini Extra
Virgin Olive Oil is excellent for athletes of
all levels.”
A
Healthy Cycle
Monini also returns this year as a sponsor of
the second annual New York City Cycling
Championship. One of seven official
events on the 2003 Pro Cycling Tour, it is a
world-class professional bicycle race featuring
the best cycling teams in America. The race
returns to Lower Manhattan Sunday, August 3,
2003.
